Anatomy of a Crochet Hook

The point is the tip of the hook.
The throat is the slender part of the hook.
The shaft is the part of the hook where you carry the yarn loop. This part determines the size of your crochet stitches. Therefore the hook size can be measured by the diameter of the shaft in millimetres.
The thumb rest is where you put your thumb and middle finger to hold and turn your hook.
The handle is the remaining part of your hook.
